PONOKA COUNTY -- Plans for a full-time Kindergarten program and the latest facility upgrades report headlined this month's Board of Trustees meeting for the Wolf Creek School Division.
Full-time Kindergarten Pilot Project:
The plans come following the superintendent's recommendation that the Division implement a pilot program for 2025/2026. Currently, only part-time Kindergarten is covered by provincial funding, which means some costs would be covered by families. Full-time Kindergarten classes have been scrutinized in the past due to the possible inequities that would arise from some being unable to afford it. It's noted that not all Wolf Creek schools would be inclined to participate in the new pilot program.
Ongoing Facilities Upgrades:
The Division says a number of projects have been completed including the installation of the new boiler at Clive School. Meantime, painting has officially gotten underway at both Eckville High and Crestomere. At the Iron Ridge Junior Campus, the boys’ change rooms have been updated and new day hooks have been installed. According to the Division, a walkthrough has also now been completed at Ponoka Elementary for the new AC system.

The Wolf Creek School Division has unveiled the dates for their 2024/2025 Graduation and Farewell Events. For Ponoka Secondary, graduation will take place on June 7th at the Ponoka Arena, while students at Rimbey Junior Senior High will be bid farewell on September 20th at Peter Lougheed Memorial Centre. Bentley students will have their graduation on June 20th at the Blindman Valley Ag Centre, while the send-off for students at Leduc Composite High School is currently set for June 26th at the Centrium (ceremony) and Exhibition Hall (banquet).
