Fire Alarms

Town of Ponoka officials are raising the alarm about an ongoing issue.

Data recorded in the first two months of this year show more than half of 33 calls to Ponoka County Fire Services were alarms triggered without fires.

"False alarm fire calls are a concern for the town," town spokesperson Sandra Smith told the One.

Town officials believe education is an important part of the solution to reducing that number.

"The Town has worked with the fire department to develop an information handout," Smith confirmed.

The information handout reminds residents that in the event an accidental activation they should advise their alarm monitoring company so it can notify fire crews and cancel their response.
