PONOKA -- The Battle River Run is set to take place this Saturday in Ponoka.
Runners will begin at the Baden Powell Adventure Centre at 9:00 a.m. and will travel along the trails throughout the Battle River Valley. The run will feature a 10K, 5K, and 1K kids' loop, and will be hosted by the Town of Ponoka along with R2 Fitness. Organizers say the 5K loop will be run entirely on paved trails, while the 10K loop will include some stretches of off-road trails.
As an official chip-timed race, live online searchable results will be posted during the race, and full printable results and downloadable Finisher Certificates will be available following the race. Medals will be awarded to top-3 overall male and female finishers in both the 10K and the 5K.
Meantime, the Town of Ponoka is advising drivers that a portion of 46th Street will be closed for the duration of the event. The town says this will affect 46th Street from 44th Avenue to 50th Avenue, as motorists are asked to drive with caution around pedestrians and runners, and to observe road signs and barricades.
Those looking to register on the day of the event can do so from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. at the Baden Powell Adventure Centre.
