Ponoka County's Peace Officer Program submits annual report

PONOKA COUNTY -- Ponoka County has received it's Peace Officer Program's annual report for 2024.
 
According to the report, last year saw 181 occurrence reports recorded, with the majority of attendance for dogs running at large. The next highest attendance by peace officers were for situations related to fire permits and dumping on county grounds.
 
In addition, peace officers completed reports 15 times for criminal code offences and 17 times for public safety incidents. The 2024 annual report also states that a total of 30 tickets were issued, consisting of 24 provincial violations and 6 bylaw infractions.
 
The Ponoka County permitting system saw a total of 1,700 movements on their road system for 2024, compared to 1,606 in 2023. The month of August reflected the greatest number of monthly movements in the year at 215. It's also noted that the energy/oilfield sector saw some re-opening, and agriculture related movements were still strong.
 
2024 saw Community Peace Officer Doug Wareham complete his first official year as part of the County's Peace Officer Program.
