RIMBEY -- A police investigation is underway after a fatal single-vehicle collision in Rimbey.
According to RCMP, the incident occurred on Monday morning at approximately 5:20 am at the intersection of Range Road 33 and Township Road 430. The Mounties say a woman driving a Chevrolet Avalanche did not stop when arriving at the intersection, and collided with a grove of trees and cable box.
The female driver -- who's described as a 57-year-old resident of Rimbey -- was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP Corporal Guillaume Lamoureux says the cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time, and that it's not known if weather conditions were a factor.
"It could have been the road conditions, or that the driver wasn't paying attention, we don't know at this point," said Cpl. Lamoureux. "There's some other investigation avenues that need to be completed."
Emergency crews were on scene for several hours and RCMP send their condolences to the woman's family and friends.
