There is no indication how long it will last according to CAO
The incident happened more than two months ago.
"We were notified and realized on February 20th that we had an unauthorized breach to our network system. It was at that time that we shut down our network system and disconnected temporarily while we were able to modify and get in touch with the proper cyber security professionals to help us with this," explained the Town of Ponoka's Chief Administrative Officer, Sandra Lund.
She admitted "It it came as a huge shock," adding "we're still in the process of determining what if any personal data has been impacted."
Lund said it's too premature to say if that has happened. "The investigation is currently ongoing," but she suggested if someone suspects they've been affected, they reach can out to the Town.
"There are a number of ways that you can do this. They can file an online service request on the town website at ponoka.ca and direct that request to general inquiries, or if they're more comfortable, they can phone the town at our main line at 403-783-4431 or stop by the town office in person."
Lund also mentioned residents can check out the Federal Government website www.cyber.gc.ca.
