Access to Ponoka emergency care improving
After years of losing numerous physicians Ponoka is now home to four internationally-trained doctors with several more still come.
“We finally have lots of same day availability for appointments at the clinic,” Dr. Gregory Sawisky of the Battle River Medical Clinic told the One.
He’s convinced the influx of physicians will help with the workload, and says there’s another benefit.
“It will also help those patients that have been left without a doctor over the last few years,” Sawisky pointed out.
It has been a challenge to keep the emergency department open at the Ponoka Hospital due to the lack of physician coverage but there could be more help on the way.
Sawisky confirms a few more doctors are now going through the lengthy application stage.
