St. Albert RCMP alerting community of residential break & enters

 Over the past month St. Albert RCMP has seen an increase in residential break & enters on the East and Southeast end of the city, specifically areas located between the Anthony Henday and the Sturgeon River. St. Albert RCMP are taking these events very seriously, and are employing a broad spectrum of preventative and investigative techniques, including additional and specialized resources.

This past weekend, St. Albert RCMP responded to two residential break and enters in Kingswood and Pineview areas.  The first complaint was received on November 15, 2024 at approximately 5:35 p.m., when a house located on Placer Close had an unknown individual try to break into the rear patio door, causing it to shatter.  The unknown suspect may have been spooked and took off without going inside the home.  Sometime the same day, an unknown individual broke into a basement window of a home on Kingsbury Crescent and stole some jewellery and other items, before leaving the residence. 

St. Albert RCMP believe these incidents are related and is asking the public with any relevant information related to these break & enters, such as CCTV footage, doorbell camera footage or witnesses who may have seen someone or something suspicious to contact St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700.

St. Albert RCMP are notifying the public to be on alert, and offer the following tips to for home owners to consider.

• Install an audible alarm system, to scare away intruders as well as signal to neighbours to be alert and call police.
• Install doorbell cameras or video cameras around your property, ensuring all back and side windows are in view. Make sure they are working and video can be saved and retrieved.
• Turn on all exterior lights in the evening or install motion sensor lights.
• Lock all exterior doors even when you are inside or outside in the back yard.
• Get to know your neighbours, and let them know who should be coming and going at your residence.
• Keep interior lights on in the evening when you are not home as it makes it appear that someone is still home.
• Trim trees & bushes around the home to ensure clear lines of sight.
• Lock up all valuable items in your home, and if possible engrave and/or record identifying marks/numbers/serial numbers

St. Albert RCMP encourages neighbours to be looking out for one another. Keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles in the neighbourhood. If you see someone entering a neighbour’s back or side yard that you feel is suspicious, notify police immediately and do not engage with the person. If you feel someone is trying to enter your home, lock yourself in a bedroom or bathroom and call 911. St. Albert RCMP are committed to our community’s safety and will respond immediately.
