2023 Town of Stony Plain Audited Financial Statements – Auditor Presentation

The audit report on the 2023 Financial Statements has been completed as per Section 281 of Municipal Government Act (MGA). The external auditor, Phil Dirks, Partner from Metrix Group LLP, provided a financial presentation for Council at last night’s Council Meeting.

“The audit went very well,” said Phil Dirks. “The Town of Stony Plain accounts are well-looked after and the Town remains in a good financial position.”

Bylaw 2689/DEB/24 – Public Works Administrative Building Project Receives First Reading

The construction of the Public Works Administrative Building is set to begin in 2024 and requires debenture borrowing to finance the project. Planning for the new building started in 2016, with a detailed design presented to Council in 2023. The project is part of the 2024-2026 Corporate Plan.

At last night’s meeting, Council approved first reading of Bylaw 2689/DEB/24.

Bylaw 2690/DEB/24 – Central Trunk Rehabilitation Program Receives First Reading

The construction of the Central Trunk Rehabilitation is scheduled for 2024 and requires debenture borrowing to finance the project. Identified in the 2019 Utility Master Plan, the central trunk sanitary sewer operates over capacity during heavy rain. As part of this project, a condition assessment of the Central Trunk was completed and confirmed major rehabilitation is needed in certain sections of the pipe to maintain operation. The project is part of the 2024-2026 Corporate Plan.

At last night’s meeting, Council approved first reading of Bylaw 2690/DEB/24.

Bylaw 2691/DEB/24 – Meridian Heights Reservoir Upgrade Project Receives First Reading

The Meridian Heights Reservoir upgrade is scheduled for 2024 and requires debenture borrowing to finance the project. Serving as the main water reservoir for Stony Plain, it requires significant repairs. The debenture will also cover the relocation of current tennis courts. This project is part of the 2024-2026 Corporate Plan.

At last night’s meeting, Council approved first reading of Bylaw 2691/DEB/24.

2023 Town of Stony Plain Audited Financial Statements Accepted as Presented

Council passed a motion to accept the 2023 Town of Stony Plain Audited Financial Statements as presented, following a financial presentation and question period by Metrix Group LLP.

2024 First Quarter Report Presented to Council

The first quarterly report of 2024 has been presented to Council. Quarterly reports are comprehensive reporting tools that serve as benchmarks for the ongoing operation of the Town of Stony Plain. Throughout the year, reports are compiled to track progress toward strategic goals and highlight achievements across the organization.

Community Recreation Centre Project Approved

At last night’s meeting, Council approved the Community Recreation Centre project in the amount of $41,651,871. Council has prioritized the addition of a new Recreation Centre to the community since 2018. It has taken several years to refine the approved project that includes a 6-sheet curling facility, walking track, multi purpose courts, pickleball courts, community space and a turf field.

The project will be funded through debenture, the Westridge Curling Club, offsite levies, and a contribution from Parkland County.
