Bylaw 2716/G/25 – Growth and Commerce Committee Bylaw Receives Second and Third Readings

The Growth and Commerce Committee (GCC) Bylaw was first brought to Council on February 10, 2025, for first reading. The bylaw formally establishes the GCC in alignment with the Municipal Government Act and the Committees Governance Framework Bylaw. The Committee will serve in an advisory capacity, supporting the Economic Development Strategy by identifying opportunities for commercial, industrial, and residential growth in Stony Plain.

At last night’s meeting, the bylaw was given second and third readings and passed by Council.

Revenue and Taxation Policy Approved by Council

At last night’s meeting, Council approved the updated Revenue and Taxation Policy C-FS-066 and repealed the previous policy C-FS-051. The Revenue and Taxation Policy C-FS-066 outlines the approach to generating revenue through taxation, which remains the primary funding source for the Town's service delivery.

Spring Budget Adjustment 2025 Approved by Council

At last night’s meeting, Council approved the 2025 Spring Budget Adjustment as presented by Administration. The budget adjustment includes a $153,000 decrease to the 2025 Corporate Plan, reducing the tax increase from 7.41% to 6.71%. Savings came from increased Grants in Lieu of Taxes, the sale of Forest Green Plaza, and the dissolution of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board. Council also approved several reserve transfers related to the Forest Green Plaza sale to support debt repayment and future projects.

Federal Election Advocacy Priorities Presented to Council for Information

Administration presented the Federal Election Advocacy Priorities to Council at last night’s meeting for information ahead of the April 28, 2025 federal election. In alignment with the Town’s Advocacy Plan, these priorities highlight opportunities to build partnerships with the federal government and advance strategic goals for the community. Key areas of focus include infrastructure investment for growing municipalities and fostering community belonging and public safety.
