
PAUL FIRST NATION -- An attack on a pair of individuals on the Paul Band First Nation has led to multiple arrests.
RCMP say the incident occurred on Tuesday morning, and that upon arrival to the scene they discovered a 41-year-old male had been shot and a 46-year-old male had been assaulted with a weapon. An investigation was launched involving several units including the Parkland RCMP, General Investigation Section, the RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Community Response Team. A police helicopter was also deployed to search for the suspects.
Corporal Guillaume Lamoureux says police were able to arrest two men in connection with the incident.
"The two suspects were eventually located and arrested safely," said Cpl. Lamoureux. "The male that was serious injured was air-lifted to hospital while the other suffered from non-life-threatening injuries."
The individual who was shot was transferred to the ICU and his condition is noted as being stable. The investigation revealed that Jeremy Adams and Nelson Saulteaux were responsible for the shooting as well as the assault.
Adams, a 35-years-old resident of Paul Band First Nation, was arrested and charged with:
- Attempted murder;
- Forceable confinement (x2);
- Aggravated assault;
- Assault:
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm;
- Being an occupant of a motor vehicle in which he knew that there was at that time a firearm;
- Unlawful possession of a firearm;
- Possess a firearm for a dangerous purpose;
- Fail to comply with a release order (x3);
- Breach of weapon prohibition order (x4).
Saulteaux, a 41-years-old residence of Paul Band First Nation, was arrested and charged with:
- Forceable confinement (x2);
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Aggravated assault;
- Assault with a weapon;
- Being an occupant of a motor vehicle in which he knew that there was at that time a firearm;
- Unlawful possession of a firearm (x3);
- Possess a firearm for a dangerous purpose;
