Parkland RCMP seek owners of stolen firearms

Parkland County, AB

Parkland County, Alta - On June 12, 2024 at approximately 12:20 am Parkland RCMP received a complained of a suspicious white GMC Sierra truck with an attached flat deck trailer parked on a dead-end road in the residential area near Duffield, AB.  Police located the suspicious vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  The lone male driver was a suspended driver and he was wanted on outstanding warrants.  When the driver opened the driver’s door of the GMC truck, police observed a fake Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) attached to the door.  The initial police investigation determined that the GMC truck and trailer were stolen, and a further search uncovered suspected Methamphetamine, one prohibited firearm, seven other firearms and two prohibited devices (over capacity magazines), also believed to be stolen.  The suspect is known to police and he was arrested without incident.

Kalen Mailhot, 41-year-old resident of Parkland County was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Fraud
  • Altering or removing a VIN (x2)
  • Possession of methamphetamine

 

The accused was remanded into custody and his next appearance is June 19, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain, AB.

The Parkland RCMP are trying to reunite the recovered stolen firearms with the rightful owners, therefore, if you had a firearm stolen and have not reported the police, please contact the Parkland RCMP at 825-220-7267 to file a report.  Anyone trying to claim the firearms will be required to provide the make, model and serial number. 

The Parkland RCMP would also like to thank the public for being vigilant and reporting this suspicious vehicle to the police, which had a successful outcome in recovering stolen property and removing unlawful firearms from the street.
