Parkland County, AB

On June 29, 2024, at approximately 10:30 am a male suspect abandoned a stolen truck on highway 43 in Lac Ste Anne County, that was previously reported stolen out of Grande Prairie.  The suspect then stole a picker truck from a jobsite near Glenevis, that had the picker boom out and a welder attached to it.  Mayerthorpe RCMP and Parkland RCMP responded, trying to stop the fleeing stolen vehicle.  “This was a very dangerous and dynamic situation because the stolen picker truck boom was extended and swinging wildly into traffic, dragging a welder that had caught fire, during high volume of traffic from a long weekend,” says Sgt. McCoombs. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed near highway 16 and highway 43 in Parkland County.  The vehicle was stopped by RCMP and the suspect was taken into custody.  There was some civilian vehicle damage as a result of the debris left on the highway from the fleeing suspect vehicle, however, there were no report of injuries.   “This is a great example of RCMP jurisdictions working together to prevent serious injuries and protecting the public on our Alberta highways” says Sgt. McCoombs.
