Stony Plain, AB

The Town of Stony Plain is excited to announce the annual recruitment for volunteers to participate on Council appointed boards and committees. Applications for Citizen-at-Large positions are open to community members who live, work, or own a business in Stony Plain and Parkland County.

Council appointed boards and committees play a vital role in providing information, advice, and recommendations to Council. Each committee focuses on a specific area and aims to enhance civic engagement and community development. Positions vary in term length, and applicants must participate in an interview process before being appointed.

This year, the Town is seeking volunteers for the following boards:

Planning Advisory Committee

  • Four openings: Stony Plain residents or business owners
  • Provides community-based input on planning-related projects requiring Council approval.

Cultural Roundtable (CRT)

  • One opening: Amateur or professional artist, must be a Stony Plain resident
  • Focuses on cultural programs and events, meeting six times per year.

Stony Plain Public Library Board

  • One opening: Stony Plain and Parkland County residents
  • Manages and regulates the municipal library, meeting monthly on the third Thursday.

Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB)

  • Four openings: Stony Plain residents
  • An administrative tribunal that hears appeals from a decision of the Development Authority or Subdivision Authority.

Tri-Municipal Leisure Corporation Board

  • One opening: Stony Plain residents
  • Oversees the management of the Tri-Municipal Family Leisure Centre.

Mayor William Choy encourages residents to get involved: “If you are passionate about shaping the future of Stony Plain, consider joining one of our Council-appointed boards. Your input can make a significant impact on our community.”

Town Manager Tom Goulden adds, “We are looking for diverse candidates to fill these positions. Volunteering on a board is an excellent way for residents to engage and influence the development of Stony Plain.”

Applicants can apply online by September 9, 2024. Council will appoint board members at the Organizational Meeting in October. Application forms and more information on each board can be found on our Boards and Committees page.
