Heavy Metal Place update – December 2024

Construction at Heavy Metal Place began moving into the final phases in December and over the holidays work continued in all areas of the facility.  Although the outside of the building may look quiet, inside the contractor is averaging 130 workers a day on site with up to 15 scissor/boom lifts working in all areas of the facility!

Several key milestones have been achieved since the last monthly update, including installing seating in the spectator arena and energizing lights and mechanical equipment.

Other highlights from December include:

Spectator arena

• Seats, boards, players boxes, and penalty boxes are being installed.
• Lighting over the ice is complete.
• Bathroom fixtures are being installed and tiling and painting in the bathrooms is ongoing.
• The elevated press box is painted, and interior finishing is ongoing.
• The lift and elevator are complete.

Community arena

• Boards, players boxes, and penalty boxes are complete and safety netting and spectator bleachers are being installed.
• Lighting over the ice is complete.
• Interior sliding doors, radiant heaters, and vestibule and exterior doors have been installed.
• Dressing room floors, bathroom fixtures and lights have been installed.

Other progress

• In the black box theatre, the performance area walls are boarded and taped/mudded, and the house lights have been installed. Rough-ins and boarding in the theatre back of house areas are ongoing.
• The art gallery’s interior windows are all installed, and the art walls are constructed. The gallery’s office/administration areas have been boarded and taped.
• At the Spruce Grove Public Library branch, the interior windows are complete, and installation of the millwork has started. Drywall is complete in the administrative areas and mechanical and electrical rough-ins are ongoing.
