Annual Treasure Hunt and Large Item Drop Off return, just in time for spring cleaning! Treasure Hunt is back May 2 to 4, and Large Item Drop Off will take place May 4.

During Treasure Hunt, residents are encouraged to place unwanted, reusable items at the curb for others to take and repurpose. It’s a fun and eco-friendly way to declutter while giving new life to otherwise unused items. Residents are reminded to remove any items not intended for giveaway from driveways, front yards, and other visible areas before May 2. Only items placed directly at the curb are considered part of the event. Do not enter yards, driveways, or doorsteps to collect items. If you're unsure whether something is part of the Treasure Hunt, it's best to leave it behind.

“Treasure Hunt is a wonderful example of community spirit and sustainability in action,” says Mayor William Choy. “I encourage all residents to take part: set out your reusable items, explore your neighbourhood, and help keep usable goods out of the landfill.”

Don’t Just Trash It! Residents are encouraged to donate any left-over usable items from Treasure Hunt to local organizations for repurposing. Items that aren’t claimed must be removed from the curb by the end of the day on May 4. Large items can be dropped off for free at the Public Works Yard (4505 50 Ave) during the Large Item Drop Off event on May 4, from 9 AM to 4 PM.

There is no limit to the number of items that can be brought to Large Item Drop Off, but only eligible items will be accepted.

Eligible items:

  • Large appliances
  • Fridges
  • Stoves
  • Exercise equipment
  • BBQs
  • Furniture
  • Wood pallets
  • Bicycles

Ineligible items:

  • Household garbage
  • Construction waste
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Hazardous materials
  • Toilets and sinks

“Large Item Drop Off makes it easy for residents to responsibly dispose of bulky household items that can’t be picked up through regular waste collection,” says Operations Administrative Assistant Patricia Cook. “It’s an accessible and convenient way to support a cleaner community.”
