********EDIT: Thursday, August 22 at 10 AM********

For further clarity, the term "tennis courts" in the original news release includes all sport courts within the outdoor recreation space, including tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts.

********Original News Release********

Construction on the Meridian Heights Reservoir will begin on Monday, August 26 to address critical infrastructure repairs to maintain operations. This is the main water reservoir for the Town of Stony Plain. As part of this project, the Meridian Heights tennis courts will be closed and unavailable to residents. Further, a portion of 43 Avenue and the parking lot will be closed during construction, tentatively August 26 through to end of March 2025.

“The decision to close the tennis courts was made after careful consideration," says Mayor William Choy. “Unfortunately, due to the scope of the project, the tennis courts will not reopen once construction is complete. However, the Town remains committed to exploring options for outdoor recreation that meet the needs of our residents.”

“The Meridian Heights Reservoir project is a key initiative identified within the 2024-2026 Corporate Plan,” says General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure, Brett Newstead. “The resulting road and tennis court closures are necessary for the upgrading and maintenance of the Meridian Heights Reservoir to ensure the long-term reliability of our water system.”
