Stony Plain, AB
Stony Plain is thrilled to welcome the holiday season with Winter Fest! This year, Winter Fest returns with three signature events including Winter Light Up, an interactive Advent Calendar, and Family Fest.
The festivities begin with Winter Light Up on December 1 in Downtown Stony Plain. From 6PM to 8PM, enjoy an evening filled with holiday activities, music, and treats. Take a photo with Santa, enjoy a BBQ hosted by the Kinsmen, and treats and treasures from local businesses! Donations for the Kinsmen Christmas Hampers including non-perishables, toys, gift cards, and cash will be collected at the Kinsmen BBQ. The event will close with the lighting of the Town Tree at 8PM sharp.
Throughout December, visit the virtual Advent Calendar on the Winter Fest webpage, where new activities, crafts, and recipes will be revealed daily. This year’s Advent Calendar will feature colouring contests with prizes for all age categories. Entries for the youth categories will be accepted from December 2 to 13, while entries for the adult category will be accepted from December 9 to 20. Winners will be announced the first week of January.
The Winter Fest celebrations will conclude with Family Fest, a family-friendly New Year’s Eve event at Heritage Park on December 31 from 6PM to 9PM. Family Fest will feature a live DJ, dance floor, photo booth, and BBQ. Participants can skate outdoors, enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride (weather permitting), and cozy up around bonfires before watching the fireworks display at 9PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the Parkland Food Bank to share the joy of the season with those in need.
“Winter Fest is a cherished tradition in Stony Plain, bringing our community together to celebrate the season and create lasting memories,” says Mayor William Choy. “From the lighting of the town tree during Winter Light Up to the family-friendly activities on New Year’s Eve at Family Fest, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone participant to share in the holiday spirit.”
"We are thrilled to host Winter Fest again this year and invite our community to come together in celebration," says Event Coordinator Tevra Graham. "These events are a special way for families and friends to make memories, enjoy the holiday season, and give back to the community."
In addition to the festive events, donations for the Kinsmen Christmas Hampers will be accepted throughout December at Town Hall.
