Thorsby enters agreement to enhance water services

THORSBY -- The Town of Thorsby has entered into a collaborative agreement to strengthen local water services.

The agreement with Wetaskiwin County will allow the two municipalities to enhance local water service and security. At this time, officials are now assessing the feasibility of a collaborative water distribution model. Their goals include the optimization of water management strategies and the maintaining of water infrastructure.

According to a statement, the initiative is designed to secure a reliable water supply that meets immediate needs and supports future growth throughout the greater region. It also aims to identify a more secure and sustainable water source in response to the County's current dependence on wells.

"Thorsby's future success has always been about marketing and distributing its water," stated Mayor Darryl Hostyn. "I along with our Council and administration have been diligently setting the groundwork to make this a reality. We are so pleased to be working closely with the County of Wetaskiwin exploring options that could benefit the residents, agriculture, and businesses in both municipalities for economic success."

The two municipalities add that by working together, capacity will be increased while spurring industrial and commercial growth and reducing overhead costs. The strategic approach will also enhance the potential for new investments in emerging sectors, while strengthening Alberta's economy and supporting long-term sustainable development.

They're now inviting all stakeholders -- residents, businesses, and neighboring communities -- to provide feedback as they explore the future development of critical water services.
