DEVON -- The Town of Devon has approved plans to implement paid parking at Voyageur Park this summer.

The measure would come as part of a temporary pilot project which is aimed at reducing congestion in the area. The idea was first brought forward by Devon administration in February, as its stated in their report that the overabundance of parking congestion during the summer months negatively impacts emergency services, staff, and users of the park.

It was decided at this week's council meeting that while the pilot project will span from June 1 to September 30, paid parking will only be in effect from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays. This means there will be no charge for parking at Voyageur Park between Monday and Thursday. According to town staff, parking rates have been set at $2/hour -- to a max of $6 for regular lots -- and $2.50/hour to a max of $10 for boat launch.

It's noted that after the summer has concluded, staff will return to council to discuss the results of the pilot project. This could include the implementation of a more long-term solution which could begin in the summer of 2026. In a statement to the One, the Town of Devon says that this new system is part of an effort to enhance park services and experience, improve traffic flow, and fund ongoing maintenance and improvement efforts.

The cost of operating the paid parking for Voyageur Park is projected at $39,152, however, those costs would be offset by the revenue generated by the town.
