Big changes to Leduc Rodeo Parade route

Organizers have made big changes to this year's edition of the Black Gold Rodeo Parade.

They were forced to examine the logistics this year due to the extensive amount of construction being done around the 65th Avenue interchange project.

"We've always had some concerns about cutting the city off, moving from the west side up to the north end when we used all of 50th Street," Trevor Wallace, president of Leduc Black Gold Pro Rodeo Association admitted to the One.

Creating a new route proved to be a challenging exercise.

"We were looking at a couple of things.  Trying to avoid that congestion on 65th, but also the long route.  We have a lot of people walking, especially young people and entries, and wanting to sort of minimize the amount of walking," Wallace said.

It's possible the route being used Saturday may become permanent, but organizers say consultation is needed to get some key questions answered

"Whether it is the best route, we go back to the one that we had again where we're getting back to a long route, a lot of entrance points so we have a lot of security and volunteer needs to accomplish that," Wallace added.

This year's parade will have more entries than last year.  The event begins at 10:00 am.
