LEDUC COUNTY -- An additional stretch of Glen Park Road will see improvements this year as part of Leduc County's Roads Program.
While it wasn't originally scheduled to be a part of this year's plans, Glen Park Road between Range Road 251 and the Queen Elizabeth II Highway will see road work in 2025.
According to the County's engineering department, this was made possible due to the contract awarded for the other portions of approved work for Glen Park Road coming in well under budget. This includes between Range Road 263 to Highway 795, and Highway 778 to Highway 39.
Des Mryglod -- Leduc County's Director of Engineering & Utilities -- spoke this week regarding their updated plans.
"Essentially what we'd like to do is finish this section of asphalt," said Mryglod. "The roadway itself rates somewhere similar to the section between 778 to Highway 39 which is on this year's program. It could use a little TLC in order to prevent future deterioration."
The overall cost of the project, including construction, engineering and contingency will be $1,400,690. County Mayor Tanni Doblanko says the approved portion of Glen Park Road will be a positive addition to their plans for 2025.
"Very seldom are we able to look at an opportunity to do more roads than we budgeted for," said Doblanko. "Glen Park Road is a very significantly busy road for the western part of the county, so allowing that to happen is good."
