Millet to debut new skate park this summer

MILLET -- A new community skate park will open in the Town of Millet this summer.

The project is being spearheaded by the Friends of the Millet Youth Society, who say they've now been given the go-ahead from the township to start planning for the construction of the new skate park. The organization says the final space will include a modular design that can be added onto over time, and extras that the Town of Millet is providing through its Municipal Reserve funds.

Aside from the regular skate park infrastructure, the area will also feature several pieces of unique equipment including outdoor exercise equipment (double air walker, fitness bike, rowing machine, Tai Chi Spinner and Elliptical), a large covered gazebo on a concrete pad, two picnic tables, sidewalk extensions, a new concrete pad outside the Community Hall, and new post rail fencing.

The Friends of the Millet Youth Society say the upgrades will tie the existing playground and the new park together to make for a space that has something for every age group. They're also seeking volunteers to join their organization to help with events and fundraising, and note that sponsorship opportunities will be available for benches and signage in the park.

The new skate park is expected to see it's grand-opening this coming summer.
