Leduc RCMP make arrests following break and enter in progress

On Sept. 16, 2024 at approximately 1:53 p.m., Leduc RCMP received a report of a break and enter and theft in progress at a commercial work yard in Nisku.

When RCMP members arrived in the area they learned that earlier in the day the suspects had parked a vehicle nearby, cut the fence to gain access to the property and were actively removing items from the property when the property reps located and detained them. Leduc RCMP arrested three suspects.  

As a result of the investigation, police seized several break-In Instruments, copper wire and approximately $23, 200. In stolen property. Building damages are estimated to be approximately $703,000.

Grant Donald Boivin (43), of no fixed address, Kyle Lance Smith (52), a resident of Vermillion, Alta.  and Erica Jean Bedell (38), of no fixed address were all charged with the following:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of break-in instruments

Boivin and Bedell were also charged with fail to comply with undertaking.

Following a judicial hearing Bedell and Smith were release from custody to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on Oct. 31, 2024. Boivin was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on Oct. 3, 2024

“As a result of the property rep’s quick actions police were able to quickly arrest the suspects and recover the stolen property, “said Cst. Cheri-Lee Smith, Leduc RCMP Public Information Officer. “We understand not all crimes can be reported while they are in progress, however calling police as soon as possible and providing a detailed description of the events can have a big impact on the investigation.”
