
LEDUC COUNTY -- Leduc County Fire Services responded to 1,073 calls for service last year.
This represents a slight increase from the 1,041 calls for service they responded to in 2023. Across the County, it's noted that Nisku saw the biggest leap in emergency responses last year, ticking up to 435 from 301 the year prior. Meantime, crews responded to 117 calls for service in Thorsby, 89 in Warburg, 137 in Calmar and 133 in New Sarepta.
County Fire Services responded to a total of twenty-one structural fires in 2024 -- eight in Nisku, five in Calmar, and four in Thorsby. They also responded to a total of eighteen vehicle fires last year, eight of which were located in Calmar.
2024 marked the first year that Leduc County full-time fire crews began responding to groundside emergencies at the Edmonton International Airport. New operational guidelines were implemented for responding to critical infrastructure and potential crashes on-and-off airport property.
Some of the key projects worked on last year included the roll out of on-line open burn permits in the rural part of the County, and the enhancement of permitting for the flammable and combustible fluid storage tank systems. Leduc County Fire Services also welcomed eight new firefighters into the 2024 recruit class.
