LEDUC COUNTY -- Leduc County saw an overall decline in criminal activity in 2024 when compared to the year prior.
This is according to the latest crime statistics from local RCMP, which shows that the county saw a 14 per cent decrease last year when compared to 2023. This includes a 12 per cent reduction in persons crimes, an 11 per cent drop in property crimes, and a 19 per cent decline in traffic violations. Drug related offences were also down, falling by 13 per cent.
In total, there were 317 fewer criminal code violations investigated by RCMP in 2024 than there were the year prior. Police say their goals for this year include launching new crime reduction projects and prolific offender initiatives.
Meantime, the region did see a few categories where certain crimes have increased when compared to the year 2020. These include criminal harassment, which is up 57 per cent from 2020, and thefts under $5000 which has grown by 40 per cent.
It is noted in the RCMP report that there was a total of seven abduction incidents in 2024, up from just two the year prior.
